Shortly before commencement (1952) the senior students were called to the hall and witnessed a very touching ceremony—the dedication of the Gordon E. Rowe Memorial Trophy which is to be presented each year to the student in Grade 13 who wins the honour of being Valedictorian. This trophy takes the form of a beautiful cup which was presented to the school by the father of Gordon Rowe.

Gordon E. Rowe was our Valedictorian in 1949, and though he has since passed away, this will serve to remind us of him always. Mr. Leduc gave a very moving and beautiful speech in honour of Gordon, and Mr. Detcher told us a little about this boy who, though handicapped, was a credit to the school. These speeches by our teachers gave us a good idea of the character of Gordon, although many of us had not known him personally.

After the address, Elizabeth McKenzie received the new Gordon E. Rowe Trophy which is to be presented annually to the valedictorian of the graduating class in memory of Gordon Rowe a former student and valedictorian.
