Oksana Borowik, (RCI Alumni 1986), is a science and nature documentary filmmaker. She has filmed chimpanzees in Africa, man-eating tigers in India, termite mounds in Australia, organic farms in Japan, as well as other topics in the Canadian Arctic, Europe, and North America.

Her documentaries have been on the Discovery Channel, National Geographic, Outdoor Life Network, and Animal Planet and seen in over 20 countries.

Oksana received her Ph.D.in Zoology at the University of Toronto. She has put her dream of taking the knowledge about the natural world and sharing it with others by doing science and nature documentaries. Her documentaries reach out to many people all over the world.

Ann Baggley (RCI Alumni 1986) has appeared in the Shaw Festival, Stratford Festival, Canadian Stage, Blyth Festival, Factory Theatre, Citadel Theatre.

A few plays Ann has appeared in are: "The Lady's Not For Burning, The Weir, Angels in America, NAC's Hard Times, Tarragon's Liquor, Guns, Karate".

"Returning to the stage after several years raising a family, actor Ann Baggley has to stand up to one of the most formidable creations of Western theatre, Henrik Ibsen's Hedda Gabler.

Amy (nee Maggiocomo) Mckenzie, (RCI Alumni 1982) has written five seasons of History Bites (Rick Green's history though the eyes of television parody and sketch comedy) and she also wrote a part season of Train 48.

Lori-Ann Muenzer, (RCI Alumni 1984), first ever Olympic cycling gold medal winner at the 2004 Summer games in Athens is also winner of the Bobbie Rosenfeld Female Athlete of the Year Award for 2004.

(The award is named after Bobbie Rosenfeld, the track star who was voted Canada's female athelte of the half-century.

John A. Rogers (RCI Alumni 1963), President and CEO of MDS Inc. has been chosen as the 2004 recipient of the Rotman Distinguished Business Alumni Award from the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management, the highest honour bestowed upon graduates of the School of Management.

The Award is given to a business school graduate who has demonstrated extraordinary achievement and leadership in his or her field and who has made a significant contribution to his or her community.

Foster Griezic (RCI Alumni 1955) a retired history professor, was awarded a special commendation for outstanding service to Canada in April 2005 for persuading the Government of Canada to give full recognition to the contribution of the merchant marines.

The merchant marines were once 12,000 strong.  By the end of the war 67 Canadian merchant ships had been sunk, with more that a thousand of the mariners lost forever at sea.

He got involved in 1988 while teaching in Ottawa and relentlessly persued this injustice.

Peter Peroff (RCI Alumni 1967) founded Toronto Truck Theatre in 1971. He was also the former owner of the Bayview Playhouse, and has been President of the Toronto Theatre Alliance, as well as chairman of the Dora Mavor Moore Awards Committee. His credits include over 150 productions.

On August 19, 1977, the curtain rose at the Toronto Truck Theatre on what was billed as North America's longest-running theatrical production, Agatha Christie's durable murder mystery, The Mousetrap which closed on January 18, 2004 after 26-1/2 years.

Frank Turner, (RCI Alumni 1967) is the only musher to have participated in every Yukon Quest - 23 years.  Turner has the fastest winning time: 10 days, 16 hours and 18 minutes in 1995. He has been in the Top Ten finishing times both directions all years! He has also won:

-Mayor's Award : Presented to the Yukon Quest winner

-Golden Harness Award : Presented to the winner's lead dog

-Veterinarians's Choice Award : Presented to the musher who demonstrates the most humane treatment and overall care for his or her dogs throughout the race, in the best spirit of the Quest. This aware is a legacy for aspiring mushers to emulate in the humane treatment and care of their team. Voted on by the race veterinarians. 2001

-Challenge of the North : Presented to the musher who most exemplifies the "Spirit of the Yukon Quest¨", a spirit that compels one to challenge the country and win. Voted on by the race officials. 2003

Sam Darragh (RCI Alumni 1951) became a Judge 1982, when he was appointed after practising for over twenty years, doing criminal defence work. As a judge he brought a wealth of human experience and common sense to the bench.

Sam played all four years of varsity football and three years of varsity basketball, serving as co-captain of the McMaster Marauders football team in his graduating year. He later played with the Montreal Allouettes in the CFL for a season and studied law at Osgoode Hall.

He had excelled at Runnymede Collegiate in hockey, basketball and football.

Tom Sharkey (RCI Alumni 1966) is still an active veteran Sergeant after 30 years with the Toronto Police Services' Emergency Task Force. "When the worst happens, Tom Sharkey is who the hard core turn to for help (Toronto Sun)". Prior to this he was a member of the bomb demolition squad.

Dangerous as it may seem, it may be a relative cakewalk compared to the two tours Sharkey served in Vietnam. He joined looking to gain world experience for a journalism career. As a U.S. Army Ranger, Sharkey led a six-man, long-range patrol team into the jungle. He also helped quell the Washington riots after the April 4, 1968, assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King.

David Garrick (RCI Alumni 1959) became general manager of the Canadian National Exhibition in 1971. Then in 1975, he was approached by the CN Tower to take over its public affairs department just as it was opening. In 1987 he joined the corporate team at another new project - the SkyDome. He later became CEO of Canada's most venerable agricultural fair, The Royal Winter Fair. He later became director of sponsorship and public affairs for the Roadrunners Lacrosse Team.

Art Webster (RCI Alumni1966) was first elected Councillor in Dawson City in the general election of 1983. While serving as Councillor. He was later elected as the MLA for Klondike in the Territorial Legislature for a 4 year term where Art served as Deputy Speaker.

Following a successful campaign in the general election of 1989, Art served as the Minister of Tourism, and the Minister of Renewable Resources (now Environment) in the NDP Cabinet of Premier Tony Penikett. Following a defeat in the general election of 1992, he started a small business in Dawson City.

In the Municipal election of 1994, Art narrowly defeated the incumbent of 14 years to become the Mayor of Dawson City.

Following that term of office, he moved to Whitehorse with his family to establish a new small business in 1999 with which I am still involved, and never to be involved in politics again.

Peter Peskun (RCI Alumni 1963) is a statistician and a teacher in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at York University who has a theorem named after him. 

"Based on Peskun's 1973 theorem it is shown that optimal transition matrices in Markov chain Monte Carlo should have zero diagonal elements except for the diagonal element corresponding to the largest weight."

Peter proved a theorem that is used in the Monte Carlo methods and some authors have been kind enough to give him explicit credit for it in their research and writings.

During his 5 years at Runnymede, Peter was a member of the TDIAA Midget (60-61), Junior (61-62) and Senior (62-63) Basketball Championship teams. The Senior team also represented Runnymde at the Golden Ball Tournament in Kingston.

Debbie Melnyk (RCI Alumni 1977), is also a well-respected documentary film-maker.

Last fall, she opened the Montreal Film Fest for documentaries with her newest film, "Citizen Black." This is a story about the rise and fall of Conrad Black. In addition, this film opened the Toronto Hot Docs fall showing and is being shown on the BBC, CBC & TVO, as well as Australia television.

Her last film "Frank" about the political magazine, opened at the Toronto Film Festival two years ago, as well as airing on CITY TV, as well as the BBC. And her first film, "Junket Whores," about the film industry, has been widely aired across Canadian and US networks. Currently, she is working on her new film about Michael Moore.

Pamela Sugiman (RCI Alumni 1976) has done extensive research on women in the labour movement, including an exhaustive study of the role of women in the CAW.

After receiving her Ph.D. in Sociology from U. of T., Pam joined the sociology faculty at McMaster University. She is currently a tenured associate professor there.
